Onyx” is an artwork in progress. I am influenced by the maternal side of my family and their stories as  working-class Black women. The art piece is an enlarged version of my body. I drew floral prints from my great-grandmother's nightgown, my grandmother's shorts, and my mother's shirt from childhood. I recreate these elements using collage, drawing, ink, and paper. Similar to the stone Onyx, I depict my family as precious spiritual entities. They are protectors and are worth protection.
